Breastfeeding and Feminism Symposium March 26-27

GREENSBORO, NC The fourth annual Breastfeeding and Feminism Symposium: From Birthplace to Workplace will meet Thursday and Friday, March 26-27, at UNCG.

The symposium, in Cone Ballroom of Elliott University Center, seeks to ensure that all women have the right to breastfeed. It will bring together social scientists, health workers, lactation and feminist advocates, employers, and policymakers to create an agenda for action.

Dr. Penny Van Esterik, a faculty member at York University in Toronto, will deliver the keynote address: “Breastfeeding and Feminism: How Modernity Disrupts Birthplaces and Workplaces.”

The event is sponsored by the UNCG Center for Women’s Health and Wellness and the Carolina Breastfeeding Institute at UNC Chapel Hill. Symposium events run from 8:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. March 26 and 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. March 27. For more information, visit www.uncg.edu/hhp/cwhw.

The cost to attend the symposium is $225, but discounts are available for early registration, students and members of the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action. A limited number of scholarships are available for those who can not afford the full cost of registration. Continuing education credits are available.
