GREENSBORO, NC Assemble seven of the best university chefs in the Carolinas, add nine mystery ingredients and bring to a competitive boil for three hours.

The result? Entrées, desserts and one winner. The contest starts at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Spencer’s on the UNCG campus. The chefs, who were nominated by their campus food service directors and their Aramark district managers, are:

• David Koerner of UNCG,
• Mike Obrochta of UNC Wilmington,
• Derrick McCorkle of Winston Salem State,
• Lynne Bigness of Barton College,
• Sidney Coves of UNC Chapel Hill,
• Billy Hicks of Charleston Southern and
• Kristian Forrest of USC Aiken.

The winning chef will become part of the three-chef Southeast regional team, which will advance to face teams from throughout the U.S. and Canada in Boston at the end of April. The team that wins the Aramark Higher Education competition in Boston will receive a weeklong, all-expense-paid trip overseas.

UNCG Chancellor Linda P. Brady; her husband, Steve Heyer; university event coordinator Rebecca LaPlante; former UNCG chef and restaurant owner Jason Alison; and Wake Forest University’s assistant vice president for hospitality services John Wise will judge the competition.

The other two chefs on the Southeast regional team will be selected through competitions at Clemson on March 2 and the College of Charleston on March 5.
