GREENSBORO, N.C. – Piano faculty from the School of Music at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro will give instruction and inspiration to students during High School Piano Day Feb. 7.
The annual event, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature master classes by UNCG piano performance faculty members David Collins, Joseph Di Piazza, James Douglass and Paul Stewart. Participants will also have a chance to perform and receive coaching on a performance piece in their repertoire.
Selected students will give a piano recital at 3 p.m. in the School of Music Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public.
High School Piano Day, now in its seventh year, hosted about 30 students last year, Stewart said. “We talk about what they’re playing, put it in a historical context, do something on theory and technique and coach them on how to interpret that particular piece,” he said.
Students also get valuable exposure to a university setting and insight on what it’s like to be a music major, he added.
The registration deadline is Jan. 31. The program costs $20 per person, which includes refreshments and lunch. The registration fee is payable on site the day of the program. For more information, visit www.uncg.edu/mus/pianoday or contact Paul Stewart at (336) 334-5380 or pbstewar@uncg.edu.
