Economic Forecaster Lyle Gramley Speaks Jan. 22

GREENSBORO, NC Dr. Lyle E. Gramley, an expert on economic forecasting and monetary policy, will speak at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, in Room 160 of the Bryan School of Business & Economics at UNCG.

Gramley is a senior economic adviser with Stanford Group Company’s Policy Research, which provides political, economic and industry research for institutional and corporate investors. Stanford Group Company is a member of the Stanford Financial group, a global network of financial services companies.

Gramley will deliver the Kathleen Price Bryan Visiting Professor of Financial Affairs. His lecture will be titled “Financial and Economic Crisis: Where We Stand Now and How Do We Fix the Problems.” The event is sponsored by the Bryan School and Stanford Group and is free and open to the public.

Weeks. “This is the second year the Kathleen Price Bryan Lecture will be sponsored in cooperation with the Stanford Group, which will provide one of its nationally recognized experts as the lecturer.

“We could not have found a better expert than Lyle Gramley to discuss this difficult and historic episode for our economy. Like everyone else, I'm eager to hear his perspectives on the financial crisis and his advice for getting us out of it."

Gramley is a senior economic adviser with Stanford Group Company’s Policy Research, which provides political, economic and industry research for institutional and corporate investors. Gramley joined Stanford Policy Research in June 2002. Earlier, Gramley was a consulting economist with the Mortgage Bankers Association from 1985 through May 2002.

From 1980-1985, Gramley was one of the seven Governors of the Federal Reserve Board; and in 1977, he became a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) where he continued until his appointment to the Federal Reserve Board in May 1980.Earlier, Gramley had spent many years as a staff economist in the Federal Reserve System, first with the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and later with the Federal Reserve Board. In 1977, prior to his appointment to the CEA, Gramley was Director of the Board’s Division of Research and Statistics.

Gramley’s fields of specialization include economic forecasting and monetary policy. His experience in both areas is extensive. In his capacity as Director of the Division of Research and Statistics at the Federal Reserve Board, Gramley was the senior economic forecaster at the Federal Reserve. As a Member of the CEA, Gramley headed the Carter Administration’s forecasting team. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Indiana University.
