GREENSBORO, N.C. — UNCG is joining other organizations in the Triad to challenge commuters to get out of their individual cars and try a new way to get to and from work.
Gas doesn’t cost $4 a gallon right now, but a greener approach to commuting still keeps more green in your wallet, according to the members of UNCG Sustain, a committee devoted to ecological stewardship.
The committee’s transportation group is sponsoring the UNCG Commuter Challenge March 24-April 30. Students, faculty and staff are asked to try an alternative means of commuting to campus that is friendlier to the environment and more sustainable. The challenge will promote riding buses, bicycling, car-pooling and walking.
Participants will be eligible for prizes from UNCG and PART, the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation. PART has organized the regional Triad Commuter Challenge.
The UNCG Challenge will be giving away gift certificates to local bike shops, a pair of walking shoes and an annual carpool parking permit for a university deck. Members of the UNCG community can sign up for a chance to win and receive information about commuting options at a table next to the bus stop in Walker Circle (on the west side of Jackson Library) 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the following dates:
