‘America in the Global Economy’ Lecture Series Kicks Off March 19

GREENSBORO, N.C. – “America in the Global Economy” will be the subject of a seven-week lecture series hosted by UNCG's Bryan School of Business and Economics.

The lectures, which run from March 19 through April 30, are part of the school’s annual foreign policy discussion series and are sponsored nationally by the Foreign Policy Association. The series, which is also offered as an MBA course, is open to the public for a $35 fee, which includes the textbook.

The Bryan School is the designated Piedmont Triad sponsor of the program, part of the national “Great Decision” series. The series will be led by G. Jason Goddard, a vice president at Wachovia Bank and a lecturer in the Bryan School, and will include presentations by Bryan faculty and guest speakers.

Presentations will start at 6:30 p.m. on consecutive Thursdays at the Bryan School. This year’s lectures include:

  • March 19 – “Global Food Supply.” Guest Speaker: Dr. Robert J. Griffiths, associate professor of political science, UNCG.
  • March 26 – “United States & Rising Powers.” Guest Speaker: Dr. Ram Baliga, John B. McKinnon Professor of Management, Wake Forest University.
  • April 2 – “Energy and the Global Economy.” Guest Speaker: Dr. Stephen Holland, assistant professor of economics, UNCG.
  • April 9 – “Cuba After Castro.” Guest Speaker: Dr. Antonio de La Cova, visiting assistant professor of Latin American history, UNCG.
  • April 16 – “Egypt in the 21st Century.” Guest Speaker: Dr. Akram Khater, associate professor of history and director of Middle East studies, N.C. State University.
  • April 23 – “Universal Human Rights.” Guest Speaker: Dr. Win-chiat Lee, associate professor of philosophy, Wake Forest University.
  • April 30 – “Pakistan and Afghanistan.” Guest Speaker: Dr. Charles “Hank” Kennedy, professor of political science, Wake Forest University.
