GREENSBORO, N.C. – Scenes from “Another Corleone: Another Sicily,” a documentary chronicling the efforts of Italian citizens to reclaim land confiscated from the Mafia, will be shown Sunday, April 5, at the Weatherspoon Art Museum.
The public is welcome to the 3 p.m. showing at no charge.
The documentary, which is still in production, is the work of broadcasting and cinema professor Tony Fragola. The film details the ongoing struggle of the residents of Corleone, Sicily, to reclaim lands confiscated by the Mafia. Corleone may be best known to American audiences as the birthplace of the fictitious Mafia family in Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather” film series.
The showing will also include selected readings by Quinn Dalton from “Sicilian Women: True Stories of Conviction and Courage.”
Fragola, who is of Sicilian heritage and teaches courses in Italian cinema, also produced “A Beautiful Memory: A Mother and Her Sons Against the Mafia,” a film portraying the struggle of Felice Impastato, a widow of a Sicilian Mafioso whose son Giuseppe “Peppino” Impastato was slain by the Sicilian Mafia for protesting against the organization. “Sicilian Women” contains an interview with Felicia Impastato and her story served as the basis of his documentary.
