GREENSBORO, NC – The Spartones, UNCG's male a cappella vocal group, placed third in the regional semifinals in the Varsity Vocals International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA).
Spartones singer Rick Marcello was named Best Soloist for his rendition of “Plane.”
The competition between seven semi-finalists took place Saturday, March 14, at UNCG.
The AcaBelles from Florida State University placed first and will advance to the finals, held at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. The Accidentals from the University of Georgia placed second.
The ICCA provides top-notch college a cappella groups with valuable feedback from highly qualified judges. The tournament takes place from January through April each year in six regions: West, Midwest, South, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and Euro.
The Spartones have opened for musician Ben Folds. Their latest CD is called “Not the Same.”
