GREENSBORO, N.C. — UNCG’s Dream Camp, a summer day camp for children and adolescents with Asperger’s Disorder, will hold a barbecue fundraiser Friday, May 22, in High Point.
Kenny & Ed’s Big Barbeque Bash will start at 7 p.m. at the High Point Elks Club, 700 Old Mill Road. In addition to the barbecue, the event will feature a silent auction, 7-8 p.m., and music by the Last Resort Band, 8-11 p.m. Last Resort describes its sound as “grassed up soul and rock ’n’ roll.”
The silent auction will include six-month family memberships to Sportscenter Athletic Club in High Point and gift certificates to restaurants such as Gianno’s, Aquaria, Blue Water Grille and Quaintance-Weaver locations, as well as other items.
Tickets cost $40 per couple and are available by contacting Kellie Whelan at (336) 209-0280 or kjwhelan@uncg.edu.
Started last summer, Dream Camp encourages campers to practice social, communication and emotion regulation skills in a fun and supportive environment. The camp is open to 6- through 16-year-olds with an Asperger’s diagnosis.
The UNCG Psychology Clinic operates the camp at the North Campus of Gateway University Research Park. The sessions run 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 22-26, July 13-17 and Aug. 3-7.
