GREENSBORO, N.C. — Jorge Quintal, who is associate vice chancellor for facilities at UNCG, has been named the UNC system’s representative to the North Carolina State Building Commission.
He will serve a three year-term. The State Building Commission develops procedures for the development of new state buildings, and is part of the N.C. Department of Administration.
"Jorge serving in this capacity will benefit the entire state with his consensus-building style, his acute listening skills and solid technical abilities," said UNCG Business Affairs Vice Chancellor Reade Taylor. "His two decades of solid, hands-on experience working with the requirements of the State's building processes will be beneficial in guiding new construction and renovations beyond UNCG and the university system."
Quintal has served on numerous task forces for UNC General Administration and the Office of State Construction. He joined UNCG in September 2008, and has oversight for Facilities Operations and for Facilities Design & Construction within the Division of Business Affairs. He oversees an operating budget in excess of $24 million and a staff of more than 250 full-time employees. The campus has approximately 5.3 million gross square feet of building space on 210 acres.
Previously, Quintal served at Winston-Salem State University from 2000-08, including an appointment as associate vice chancellor for facilities since 2003. Earlier, he was at N.C. State University from 1987 to 2000, where he held positions as manager of design, associate director of construction management and project manager. He is a civil engineering graduate of Merida Technology Institute in Mexico and earned a master’s degree in civil engineering at N.C. State.
