GREENSBORO, N.C. Brian Ray, a PhD student in English at UNCG, will read from his award-winning debut novel at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, in the Faculty Center. His book, “Through the Pale Door,” won the 2009 South Carolina First Novel Prize.

Free and open to the public, the reading is sponsored by the UNCG Center for Creative Writing in the Arts and will be followed by a book signing.

Booklist has called Ray “a talent to watch.” Atlanta Magazine’s Teresa Weaver has called his book “mesmerizing,” adding that “the story is so gently told, in a setting so beautifully grim, it’s easy to forget this is a debut novel.”
