- The News & Record provided an update on the Locavore Makeover Project, an effort by nutrition faculty member Anne-Marie Scott. As the article puts it, Scott is helping two Greensboro families "discard their fast-food lifestyles for one that is seasonal, local, organic and unprocessed." (9-27-09)
- The Greensboro News and Record ran a feature story on Fred Chappell, emeritus professor of English at UNCG and former N.C. poet laureate, as well as a review of Chappell's latest poetry collection, "Shadow Box." (9-21-09)
- The UNCG Police Department was honored by the American Red Cross for saving two lives over a six-month timeframe. WFMY News 2 ran a story on the honor. (9-18-09)
- Researchers from UNCG and N.C. A&T joined to study North Carolina's growing wine industry and ways the business side could be strengthened. Their work was profiled by industry magazine Wines & Vines. (9-11-09)
- Dr. Patricia Gray, a clinical professor and senior research scientist in the School of Music's Music Reseach Institute, was interviewed on NPR's "Science Friday" for her research on primate music. (9-11-09)
- The News & Record wrote a story about UNCG's record-breaking fall enrollment. (9-11-09)
- The decision by the Board of Trustees, which followed the recommendation of Chancellor Linda P. Brady, to renovate rather than replace the Quad residence halls was covered by a number of local media.
- David Holian, professor of political science, was interviewed by WFMY News 2 for a story on civility in politics. (9-11-09)
- News 14 Carolina ran a story on UNCG's new suicide prevention program, Friends Helping Friends. Friends Helping Friends, funded by a federal grant, launched this week with a web site and and an educational event in Elliott University Center. (9-11-09)
- The Greensboro News and Record spotlighted storyteller Willy Claflin on its Page Turners blog. Claflin andhis sidekick, Maynard Moose, perform at UNCG Sept. 14.
- Despite record enrollment this year, demand for parking passes dropped almost 3 percent, according to an article in The News & Record.
The Higher Education Area Transit, or HEAT, buses, which students and university employees can ride for free, have been the biggest factor in that decine, said Scott Milman, director of auxiliary business operations. (9-8-09)
- Lin Buettner, a professor in the Department of Recreation, Tourism, and Hospitality Management, was quoted in an article about pet therapy in Parade. Why are therapy dogs so effective? “Part of the magic is the unconditional bond between therapy dogs and the people they visit,” Buettner told the magazine. “It doesn’t matter if you have disabilities, can’t read well, or are old and sick - the dog loves and comforts you anyway.” (9-6-09)
- EFE, a Spanish-language news network, ran a story on Dr. Andreas Lixl's new book on immigrants to the Carolinas. Lixl, a native of Austria, compiled diverse firsthand stories of Hispanic, African, Asian and Europeanimmigrants who settled in North and South Carolina from the colonial era to the present. The book, "Memories of Carolinian Immigrants," is published by University Press of America. (9-3-09)
