GREENSBORO, N.C. — More than 200 scholars versed in transforming academic research into commercial ventures will gather at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro Friday, Oct. 2, for the Technology Transfer Society Annual Conference.
“This event complements the thrust at UNCG to invent and commercialize new technology, as well as the academic research in entrepreneurship by its faculty,” UNCG Chancellor Linda P. Brady said. “Experts in the field will come to UNCG from all over the United States and 12 other countries, and it speaks well of our efforts in technology transfer that we were selected as a host campus.”
The day’s events includes breakout sessions focused on highlighting emerging trends in entrepreneurship and technology commercialization, said conference organizer Dr. Al Link. Workshops will focus on various aspects of entrepreneurship, ranging from the transition from innovator to entrepreneur to the management of joint projects between industry and universities.
The conference will also include two keynote addresses. The first, by Josh Lerner from the Harvard Business School, is titled “Boulevard of Broken Dreams: Public Efforts to Promote Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital.” The second, by Howard Aldrich from UNC-Chapel Hill, is on social networks and entrepreneurship.
The Technology Transfer Society Conference is sponsored by UNCG’s Office of Research and Economic Development and the North Carolina Entrepreneurship Center along with the Kauffman Foundation, Smith Moore Leatherwood and UTEK Corporation.
