GREENSBORO, N.C. — The sounds of the veena, an Indian stringed instrument, will be featured at the The University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s School of Music Saturday, Sept. 26.
Jayanthi Kumaresh, a well-known Indian musician, will play the veena in concert at 7:30 p.m. in the School of Music Recital Hall. Tickets are $10 public, $6 seniors, $4 students and $3 UNCG students, and can be purchased by calling the UNCG Box Office at (336) 334-4849 or online at boxoffice.uncg.edu.
Born into a renowned musical family, Kumaresh has honed her distinctive performance style over the past two decades. She has recorded a number of albums and has worked as a composer for the scores of a host of musicals and dance ballets. The Statesman, a leading daily Indian newspaper, called Kumaresh “the best and most versatile veena artist we have today."
The concert is sponsored by the UNCG School of Music, the UNCG Asian Studies Program, the Hindu Society of North Carolina Greensboro, the India Association of the Triad and the South Indian Fine Arts Association.
