GREENSBORO, N.C. UNCG kicks off the spring semester of Science on Tap events Feb. 9 when Dr. Amy Adamson will speak about swine flu and the science of viruses. Originally planned for Feb. 2, the event has been rescheduled due to the weather.

Featuring the expertise of UNCG faculty members, the talks take place 7:30-9 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Green Bean, a coffee house at 321 S. Elm Street in downtown Greensboro. Sponsored by the UNCG Office of Research and Economic Development, Science on Tap is in its second year.

Adamson, an associate professor in the Department of Biology, plans to focus primarily on where the H1N1 virus came from, what happened with the virus in 2009, what’s happening now and what to expect in the future.

Three additional Science on Tap events have been scheduled for the spring semester.

• March 2 - “Emergence of Infectious Diseases: How Do We Bring Them on Ourselves?” – Dr. Gideon Wasserberg, assistant professor, Department of Biology

• April 6 – “Medicine Man: Truth and Fiction in the Pursuit of New Drugs from Nature” – Dr. Nicholas Oberlies, associate professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

• May 4 – “Synthetic Biology: The Ethics of Creating Artificial Life” – Dr. Robert Cannon, professor and associate head, Department of Biology
