GREENSBORO, N.C. — UNCG and the nonprofit Sustainable Greensboro are working together to help college students and the Greensboro community celebrate and learn on April 21, Earth Day 2011.
Earth Day activities on the UNCG campus will be held 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. along College Avenue and in Foust Park. More than four dozen organizations, companies, local farmers and artists from the campus and the community will be participating.
Below is a partial list of activities:
UNCG and Sustainable Greensboro are pleased to welcome The Cone Health Foundation as an Earth Day sponsor.
Sustainable Greensboro is hosting an afterparty beginning at 4 p.m. at Natty Greene’s Pub and Brewing Company, 345 S. Elm St. in downtown Greensboro, which is sponsoring the event.
The premiere of Anthony Fragola’s “Another Corleone: Another Sicily, Living Sustainably in the Land of the Godfather,” a film that focuses on the lands confiscated from the mafia in Corleone, the town made famous by Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather” will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Weatherspoon Art Museum.
The film illustrates the progress of Sicilian cooperatives to form self-sustaining ventures that provide meaningful work and economic freedom from mafia control by producing organically grown products. Fragola, a professor of media studies, will lead a post-screening discussion with local experts on how Greensboro can move into a sustainable future. The screening is sponsored by UNCG’s Sustainability Committee.
