GREENSBORO, N.C. — Jonathan Hartlyn, the Kenneth J. Reckford Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will give the final lecture in the series “Democracy: On the March or on the Ropes?” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in Weatherspoon Art Museum Auditorium.
The talk - “Contemporary Latin America: Evolution and Challenges to Democracy” - will be followed by a reception. Free parking is available behind the museum. Those with questions may contact Carrie Klamut at ceklamut@uncg.edu.
Hartlyn received his bachelor’s from Clark University and his master’s and doctorate in political science from Yale University. His research and teaching interests are in the comparative politics of Latin America, especially with relation to questions of democratization, political institutions and state-society relations.
He has served as director of UNC-CH’s Institute of Latin American Studies (now the Institute for the Study of the Americas) and as chair of the Department of Political Science. He has served as chair of the Comparative Democratization section of the American Political Science Association, and he is a member of the Executive Council of the Latin American Studies Association (2007-10).
