WGS Graduate Certificate
Students who have earned a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university may apply to the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate program in Women's and Gender Studies. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the program, candidates may present a baccalaureate degree in any field.
Admission requires completing a Graduate School application, paying an application fee and submitting transcripts and letters of recommendation. No graduate test is required. Additionally, a statement of purpose of no more than 500 words describing your goals, areas of interest, background experiences and reasons for pursuing this certificate program should be sent to the Women’s & Gender Studies Program.
If you are already enrolled in another graduate program at UNCG, you will need to fill out an application for this program, pay the non-refundable application fee, and submit the purpose statement only.

Application Procedures
Program Requirements
The WGS Graduate Certificate requires successful completion of 15 credit hours during a five-year period. At least 12 semester hours must be taken at UNCG and a minimum of 9 hours must be at the 600-level or above. Certificate courses may meet the requirements of another degree program in accordance with the policies of The Graduate School.
Curriculum
The curriculum consists of a core course (3 hours), either a practicum (WGS-601 - 3 hours) or independent study (WGS-600 - 3 hours), and a minimum of 9 hours of WGS related electives. Students enrolled in a graduate degree program must take at least 3 credit hours of course work (exclusive of the practicum) outside their degree-granting department. All independent study and practicum work must be approved by a supervising instructor prior to registering.

Electives (minimum 9 hours)
Includes any 9 hours of approved WGS graduate courses; 3 hours must be outside the home department. These may involve internship and independent study credits. Special Topics courses in a variety of disciplines may be taken with the approval of the Director of the Women's and Gender Studies Program.

Obtaining your Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies
The semester prior to completing your certificate and/or graduating from your program, you should submit a completed Plan of Study listing the coursework taken that meets the program requirements.
You must formally apply for graduation at the Graduate School by the end of the first week of classes during the term in which they plan to graduate.

A graduation fee of $55 for Master’s and Specialist in Education candidates, $70 for combined MS/EdS degrees and $60 for doctoral degrees should be paid to the Cashier’s and Student Accounts office.
WGS Certificate students who are in degree programs may choose to obtain their certificate with their degree, or at the time of completion.
