Women's and Gender Studies Graduate Certificate:
Admissions Requirements

All students applying for the certificate must complete a Graduate School application whether they are entering for the first time or are currently enrolled in another graduate program. ( Students initially applying for a graduate program can apply for the certificate at the same time).

Applicants to the certificate program must submit the following to The Graduate School:

A completed application form
A non-refundable $45 application fee
Two official transcripts of their academic record at all universities and colleges
Three letters of recommendation

In addition applicants are to provide a statement of no more than 500 words discussing their goals and areas of interest, how their previous study and experience have led them to these goals, and how the program will further their personal and professional goals.

This statement should be sent directly to the director of Women's and Gender Studies, 200 Foust Building, P.O. Box 26170, Greensboro, NC 27402-6170.

Students may apply to a graduate degree program and the WGS certificate program on the same application for one fee of $45. If you are already enrolled in the Graduate School, you will need to reapply for the certificate program. In this case, you will need to pay a second $45 application fee. However, transcripts, recommendation letters, and GRE scores do not need to be resubmitted.

If you are applying for a graduate degree program and the WGS Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program on the same application, fill out the application as follows:

On question # 26, check the "Admission" or "Re-admission" box as appropriate, the box for your graduate degree program, and the box for "Post-Baccalaureate Certificate."
On question # 27, enter the name of your graduate degree program. Specify that you are applying for the WGS certificate by writing "Women's and Gender Studies Certificate" underneath the "Post-Baccalaureate Certificate" box in question #26.

If you are applying for the WGS certificate only, fill out the application as follows:

On question #26, check the "Admission" box and the box for "Post-Baccalaureate Certificate."
On question #27, enter "Women's and Gender Studies Certificate.
