UNCG Web Developer Certification Plan

The Web Certification Program is designed to train university staff on the UNCG web environment, policies and standards, and is an initiative of Web3 to be offered in the context of UWDoG.

Goals

  1. Increased proficiency in web site maintenance, design and development, according to federal, state and university policies and standards
  2. Better personnel management and job task assignment
  3. Tailored IT support according to an individual's assessed skill sets and job functions

Curriculum

The Web Certification Program is comprised of three levels of competency:

  1. Unit Website Maintainer,
  2. Unit Website Designer, and
  3. Web Application Developer

Level I, Unit Website Maintainer, is to be offered the 2005-2006 Academic Year, with each additional Level (Website Designer and Web Application Developer) offered each subsequent Academic year.

Level I is comprised of two sections:

  1. Certificate of Completion, awarded to those who attend and complete all required classes and successfully complete all training assessments.
  2. Certification, awarded to those who demonstrate the ability to individuals perform the Unit Maintenance tasks, as learned in the training.

  1. ITP Basic Computer Skills & UNCG Computing Environment course
  2. Introduction to Element K

Level I: Unit Website Maintainer

Goal: Completion of Level I certification will allow an individual to manage content on the primary UNCG web servers, with an emphasis on use of the Web3 Wrapper System. The user will be able to develop web sites compliant with an awareness of the UNCG Web-related policies and standards.

Assessment and Awarding of the Level 1 Certificate of Completion

Element K's website has the ability to create “Development Paths” comprised of a series of classes and assessments. This functionality will be used to create a UNCG Web3 Certification Level 1 Channel. Individuals will be required to pass the assessments associated with each required Element K online class. Additional online assessments for the UNCG classes are to be developed by Web3 and incorporated into an Element K Channel. The learner will be required to complete all online assessments of each required course.

Assessment and Awarding of the Level 1 Certification

Lastly, in order to be awarded the Level 1 certificate, the learner will be required to demonstrate to at least three Web3 members the successfully completion of the process of editing and uploading a webpage file to a unit website and achieving XHTML validation.

  • The University Webmaster has put forth that Client Services will set up space for students/trainees before classes begin.
