The Wrapper system was developed by Kevin McClain, Web and Technology Coordinator of the Division of Student Affairs (SAF), during the Fall of 2003 as a tool to assist SAF departments manage their websites and adapt to the changing University Unit requirements. During the next year he saw the wrapper implemented across the majority of SAF units and worked to increase its flexibility.
During that same time, Richard Cox, Jackson Library Webmaster, had developed a highly accessible XHTML template meeting the Unit requirements and had implemented it on the Library website.
In the Fall of 2004 Kevin McClain and Richard Cox partnered to modify the wrapper tool so that it delivered a highly accessible implementation of the Unit requirements. In addition, the wrapper's variables, syntax and naming conventions were standardized.
