Attendance, Absences, Tardy policy and participation
a. Attendance in each class is mandatory for adequate growth in dance technique. You are allowed 3 absences (excused or unexcused) from class. After the allowed amount your grade will drop a 1/3 of a letter grade for each absence. Emergency situations including injuries and observing classes will be dealt with on an individual basis.
b. Tardy policy: if you are late for class you must enter quickly and quietly, go to the back of the classroom and begin participating immediately without disrupting the other students. You are responsible for notifying the instructor after class to change attendance from absence to tardy. Three tardies constitute one absence.
2. Dance Attire: Please wear comfortable dance wear. You will need a long sleeve shirt for warm-up. Baggy clothes are okay, not too baggy. I will need to see your body so use good judgment. No shorts or biker shorts, hats, excessive or bulky jewelry, and socks. Class will be performed in bare feet and you will need knee pads.
3. Technical and Artistic Ability: 25% of your grade will be based on Technical and Artistic Ability. Technical ability relates to your placement, alignment, use of strength, use of your own range in flexibility, use of the torso, and use of torso in relation to upper body and lower body. Artistic ability relates to your overall musicality and sense of rhythm, projection, performance and presence, and the use of movement/dynamics.
4. Effort and Improvement: 25% of your grade will be based on Effort and Improvement. Effort and Improvement relates to your ability to pick up combinations, application and retention of corrections, and your personal work habits in class.
