1. Attendance
and Participation:
Attendance in each class is mandatory for development of choreography. All absences will be dealt with on an individual basis and will effect your grade.
2. Written
Assignments:
There will be four showings of form studies during
the first half of the semester.
All students who are not involved in a particular study are responsible
for oral feedback and observations.
A written summary and critique of these discussions are due the
following class meeting.
3. Final
Dance Project:
The second half of the semester will be dedicated to the development of individual group dances. Each dance should be between 6-8 minutes and have at least 3 -6 dancers. This assignment should still encourage exploration of individual artistic vision while appreciating the formal values studied in the course.
4. Final
research project:
A written assignment of at least five typed pages concerning the philosophical approach and significant impact of a particular choreographer of your choice will be due November 28. The paper should consist of a description of your perception of the artist’s beliefs and values, an assessment of those beliefs through viewing a video of their work, and a thorough impression of how this contrasts or compares with your own artistic ideals brought on by the examining processes of this course.
