Prospective Students
  • We are always looking for motivated students to join our lab. Undergraduate students can volunteer their time or sign up for PSY 433 credit (Independent Study). We are also interested in meeting with prospective graduate students.

What We Do
  • We are observing the development of manual skills in our laboratory and the contribution of the social environment. Our data collection procedures require training on using the Infant Handedness Assessment (Michel, 1986). Data analysis requires detailed behavioral coding of infant hand-use video with Noldus Observer XT software.

Time Commitment
  • Weekly meetings with Dr. Michel (1 hour/week)

  • Bi-monthly readings and brief reports on these readings (1-2 hours/week)

  • Data collection and/or behavioral coding (at least 7 hours/week). This is negotiable if you are only doing behavioral coding (at least 5 hours/week).

  • Total time spent in lab at minimum needs to be 6-7 hours per week (equivalent to 2 credits for PSY 433).
You can find out more information about our studies on the Infant Development Center lab page. If you can make the time commitment and are interested in the type of work we are doing, please feel free to set up an appointment via email.
