Dr. Lennartson received the BA degree from Southern Connecticut State University, and MS and PhD degrees from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. His expertise includes the study of tropospheric ozone concentrations at the local, regional, and synoptic scales. He has extensively investigated the Lake Michigan Region's problem with elevated concentrations of surface-level ozone; and has focused his attention as well on air quality issues in North Carolina-particularly as relates to attainment of the federal government's air quality standards for ozone.

In the area of teaching, Dr. Lennartson has considerable experience using computer technology in the classroom, and continues to develop new and innovative ways of integrating internet and WWW resources into his curriculum. A significant portion of his course materials are available to his students online.

Dr. Lennartson has worked closely with the Piedmont Land Conservancy to establish the LEAF Center , which provides research and field experience opportunities for the students and faculty of UNCG. Dr. Lennartson is an active member of the community, and often gives lectures to civic organizations about environmental topics. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the Association of American Geographers, and is a former television broadcast meteorologist.  Dr. Lennartson holds the American Meteorological Society's Broadcast Seal of Approval.
