GEO 606 - Semester Paper
- A research paper will be assigned to students enrolled in GEO 606
- Your research topic must be approved and is due on 2/10
- A final draft of your paper must be submitted no later than 4/28
- You are to choose a topic from the field of environmental
planning/policy
- The following are examples of acceptable topics/issues for your
paper:
- issues related to clean air and water
- issues related to solid and hazardous waste
disposal
- planning and policy as it relates to
land-management
- NEPA and EIS
- the political and institutional settings of
environmental planning
- watershed regulations
- eco-system planning
- natural resource areas
- other issues with my approval
- Through researching your topic you will become more knowledgeable
about your specific topic, as well as the field of environmental planning
in general.
- The paper is expected to be of substantial length, current, and
focused on a recent literature review. The outline of the report should
follow the following format:
- Introduction (specific problem/issue and why
is the topic worthy of study)
- Current Literature Review (Journal of the
American Planning Association, Planning, Urban Geography, Environment
and Planning, Urban Studies, and others)
- Evaluation and discussion of the issue in the
context of environmental planning/policy
- Conclusion (Implications for future, future
research questions and recommendations)
