Policies, Procedures, and Grading
- Students enrolled in GEO 111-01 must also enroll and participate
in GEO 111L-01 or GEO 111L-02-the laboratory portion of GEO 111-01.
- Your laboratory grade counts for 25% of your final grade in
GEO 111-01.
- There will be 13 equally weighted laboratory assignments during
the semester. Your grade in lab will be based on your scores from
the 13 assignments.
- Attendance at each week's laboratory meeting is mandatory
and will be closely monitored. Students are expected to arrive on time for lab
and stay for the entire lab period.
- Under no circumstances will weekly assignments
be accepted from students who were not present for the entirety
of the lab meeting on the day the assignment was given.
- If you cannot attend your normal lab meeting time, you may
attend the other lab section for that particular week. You are
not, however, permitted to "hop" between lab
sections on a regular basis.
- If you miss one of the 13 weekly labs, you must attend the
make-up lab session to be held on Monday December 8, 1997 from
1:00 - 3:20 p.m. in Graham 109. No more than 1 lab may
be made-up!!!!
- All weekly assignments are due at the start
of the following week's lab. Late labs (labs turned in after the
start of lab) will not be accepted.
- Students are welcome to collaborate in lab. However, everyone
is expected to contribute and do their own work. The work you
submit must be uniquely yours.
Laboratory Preparation and Prelaboratory Exercises
- Prior to coming to lab, you are expected
to read through and think about that week's
scheduled lab. It is critically important to your
success in GEO 111 that you do take the time to carefully read
the background material and examine the figures and photos in
the lab manual in advance of the scheduled laboratory.
- To assist you in preparation for upcoming labs, each week
you will be assigned prelaboratory exercises to be handed-in at
the very beginning of the following week's lab period.
Under no circumstances will prelabs be accepted
after the start of the lab meeting. Prelab exercises will be graded
and worth 10-50% of each week's assignment (the specific percentage
will be a function of the length of the particular prelaboratory
exercise).
- Prelabs are designed to be done on your own, outside of lab.
If you have problems or questions with one or more of a given
week's prelaboratory exercises, it is your responsibility to seek
help from your laboratory instructor in advance of the day that
the prelab is due. "I coudn't do the exercise"
or "I did not understand the exercise" are not
acceptable excuses for not having the prelab ready to submit,
on time, to your lab instructor.
