Jane E. Myers, Ph.D., is a Professional Counselor and Professor in the Department of Counseling and Educational Development at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is a native of California, born in Eureka and raised in East Oakland. She received her Bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master's in rehabilitation counseling from the University of Florida. Her specialist in counseling and educational administration and doctorate in counselor education with certificate in gerontology also were received from the University of Florida. Dr. Myers is a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina, a National Certified Counselor, and a National Certified Gerontological Counselor. Her professional interests include wellness for persons of all ages, mid-life and aging issues, assessment, and counselor education. In addition, she is a pilot, enjoys nature, water, gardening, cooking, reading, her grandchildren, and spending time with her husband, Dr. Tom Sweeney. Their latest joint project is the book Counseling for Wellness: Theory, Research, and Practice, published in 2005 by the American Counseling Association. This partly authored and partly edited book describes their two wellness models, assessment instruments, summarizes two decades of wellness research by multiple authors, including over 30 doctoral dissertations completed at 10 institutions in the United States and internationally, and provides tangible suggestions for applying the wellness models in education, community services, and business and industry settings. Dr. Myers teaches a variety of graduate courses for masters' and doctoral students in counseling. These include required courses in advanced counseling theory and practice, notably Adlerian Counseling and Developmental Counseling and Therapy (DCT). She also teaches specialty courses in wellness and counseling for midlife and aging. She supervises clinical practica and internships in professional counseling and supervises doctoral teaching assistants. |
