Intermediate German Web Exercise




Übung: Ausländer in Deutschland

This is an Internet exercise for intermediate German which focuses on the topic of "Foreigners and Minorities" in the German speaking countries. Students are asked to complete the assignment outlined below within 50 minutes or less. The exercise is graded as a regular lab assignment. Viel Spaß im Internet!

Student Instructions [Hand-Out]

1. Open a world wide web browser application such as Netscape. Open the link to the following URL address, entitled "Foreigners and Minorities" in Germany: http://www.uncg.edu/~lixlpurc/GIP/german_units/Foreigner.html

2. Enter a "Bookmark" for this "Foreigners and Minorities" page by pulling down the bookmarks menu, and by clickking on "add bookmark".

3. Scroll down the "Foreigners and Minorities" page, find the link for "Courage Ausländer Archiv", and click on it. The URL for this destination is: gopher://pfsparc02.phil15.uni-sb.de/11/gopher-projekt/Aktuelles/courage.

Answer the following questions:

5. Scroll down the "Foreigners and Minorities" page, find the link for "Türke ist Corps-Chef", and click on it. This will bring you to the page with this URL: http://cousin.stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/cousin/presse/tuerke.html
Scroll down the page until you find information about this German Turk, who joined a German fraternity (Corps) as a foreign student, and thus dispelled some of the stereotypes associated with German fraternities, and their alleged racist and nationalist attitudes. The student's name is Aydin Karaduman.
