My lab at UNCG has about 950 sq. ft. of work space containing standard facilities such as work benches, sinks, a fume hood, and gas and vacuum outlets.  The laboratory is equipped with a refrigerated chromatography cabinet (45 cu. ft.), two storage freezers (-20°C), one (-80°C) freezer, centrifuges (clinical and micro), 20L water bath, dry bath, top-loading and analytical balances, stirrer/hot plates, pH meter, 37°C incubator, microwave oven, and a hematology rotator.

More specialized equipment in the lab includes:

  • Olympus IX70 inverted microscope (picture) equipped with phase contrast and fluorescence imaging capabilities and a Roper Coolsnap FX 12-bit (20 MHz) digital camera. Accompanying Image-Pro Plus V4.5 software is used for image capture and analysis.

  • Biorad (GenePulser II) cell electroporation apparatus (picture) for transforming Dictyostelium cells.
  • Dictyostelium cell culture room (see below)
  • Protein gel electrophoresis equipment for performing both one- and two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, as well as immunoblotting.
  • Agarose gel electrophoresis and other standard molecular biology-related lab equipment.
  • New Brunswick Innova 2150™ Platform shaker is set up in the PI’s laboratory for growing Dictyostelium cells in suspension
