Falling Spring Falls, VA. The drainage feeding the falls is nearly saturated with dissolved calcium carbonate (Ca and HCO₃ ions). Surface streams up and downstream of the falls contain travertine ridges similar to those more commonly found in limestone caverns.

Seneca Rocks, WV. Marine sandstones (Tuscarora Fm) are tilted at near 90 degrees from horizontal along this and adjacent ridges.

The N. Fork Potomac River near the foot of Seneca Rocks. Although the channel is nearly straight, the thalweg alternates between right and left banks with cobble and boulder bars intervening.
