Dolly Sods at Bear Rocks (WV). Sandstones and conglomerates (Homewood fm., Pottsville series; Pennsylvanian)

Homewood sandstones at Bear Rocks contain numerous examples of small weathering basins, most of which have outflows somewhere on their perimeter like this one.

Cranberry bog/wet meadow near N. end of Dolly Sods below Bear Rocks Preserve.  The Allegheny Plateau in West Virginia reaches up to 4500 ft +, allowing red spruce (background) to be a common forest tree.

Heading to a distant tor at Dolly Sods.

The Greenbrier Valley (WV).  Lots of great recreational opportunities in the valley. Karst in the valley bottom features an abundance of large dolines and sinking streams. (No pics; too much drivin, not enough photography on this leg.)
