Royall’s Personal Home Page

In the early 1800s my family settled in what is now Stone Mountain State Park (NC), an area underlain by a granitic pluton exposed along the Blue Ridge Escarpment. I grew up further west, in Banner Elk (NC), where I met my future wife, Kathryn Willis from Kingsport (TN), working at Holston Presbytery Camp. We have two children, Nathan (7) and Ian (1). In addition to the geosciences, I enjoy wilderness treks, wild caves, kayak touring and playing the mandolin. Of sports, I enjoy ice hockey; a residual of spending a few years working in upstate NY.
