Adoption Information
Because
Golden Retrievers are so visible and popular, some families decide
this is the dog for them before ever really considering the typical
traits of this breed. The first step in our adoption procedure,
therefore, is that we ask you to read a our short piece on Breed
Information. If, after considering the pros and cons of these
dogs, you feel ready to pursue an adoption, read on!
Please note that we rarely have puppies in the program
and that an approved family may already
be waiting for a dog you see on our "Available Dogs" page. Because
TGRR is committed to the long-term safety and happiness of
each dog we rescue, keep in mind the following:
• we do not approve applications
where the dog would be kept outside when the owner is
not at home or during nighttime - most Goldens
are not happy as outside dogs, and keeping them outside
leads to unwanted behaviors as well as safety issues.
Please follow the link to ChainFree
Asheville for a good article on this issue.
• we require a fenced yard (or other secure outdoor
area) in most cases
Please see our Frequently Asked Questions page
for additional information.
Application Fee
As expenses for phone calls, postage, and copying materials
have increased, we have found it necessary to ask for an application
fee of $25. This
fee is non-refundable, but may be applied to the adoption fee.
Thank you for your understanding.
Adoption Fee
Our adoption fee is on a sliding scale as follows:
$350 for
Goldens up to 1 year old
$250 for
Goldens 1 year + 1 day - up to 8 years old
$100 for
Goldens 8 years + 1 day - up to 10 years old
for dogs 10 years + 1 day and over - we appreciate
a donation of your choice
Please
do not be put off by the questionnaire or our request to visit
your home if you are in our area. The combined experience of
TGRR, Inc. and other rescue groups has shown that this process
is the best way to ensure we make a good match between your needs
and our dogs.
