About Our Program

ahoudi Triad Golden Retriever Rescue, Inc. (TGRR) is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, humane treatment and placement of homeless Golden Retrievers, and to the education of the public about the breed.

Located in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina (including Greensboro and Winston-Salem), TGRR works cooperatively with other regional rescue groups and is open to arranging long-distance adoptions whenever we find a good match between the needs and circumstances of a dog and a family.

We receive dogs from private owners, lost dog turn-ins, and local animal shelters.

After a Golden is accepted into the rescue program, it is checked thoroughly by a veterinarian, brought up to date on immunizations, put on heartworm preventative, spayed or neutered, and bathed and groomed. Individual members of our group foster these dogs in their homes, where they work on socialization and basic obedience skills.

TGRR makes every effort to place each of its rescue dogs with a new owner whose home situation and lifestyle seem most closely matched to the needs and personality of the individual dog.

zoeWe want each placement to be a success for the adopting family and the dog. For this reason, we interview each prospective adopting family, provide them with more information both about the breed and our program, and make a home visit (for local adoptions) or ask for veterinary references (for long-distance adoptions) before placing any dog.

Golden Retrievers are people-oriented dogs who thrive on human contact and genuinely need to be an integral part of their owners' lives. TGRR looks for prospective owners who will welcome the dog into their home and will have time to spend with the animal. When deprived of human contact, these dogs often develop behavioral problems such as barking, chewing, digging, or even running away.

Many of our rescue dogs come from circumstances where they were kept in a pen or yard and not given enough attention. We don't want to put them in the same unhappy situation again. We are also looking for prospective owners who can provide a secure, confined outdoor area for the dog to exercise in, ideally a fenced yard.

Because our group is small and made up volunteers who work full-time at other jobs, we have set up a voice-mail system that allows callers to leave a message for designated volunteers to handle. Just call the number below and choose the line which best applies to your situation. Please remember to speak slowly and to give your complete phone number, including area code. Long-distance calls may be returned collect.
