Required Textbook: An Introduction to Categorical Data Analysis, by Alan Agresti. (ISBN: 0-174-11338-7)
Optional Textbook: Categorical Data Analysis, 2nd edition,
by Alan Agresti. (ISBN: 0-471-36093-7)
Note: This is an update of the original classic. While it is accessible
to readers with minimal mathematical background, it is written at a more
technical level than the "Introduction", but covers more topics and is
an essential reference in every statistician's library. We will primarily
refer to and discuss things at the level of "An Introduction to CDA". However,
we will cover a couple of topics from the "Big Book", which will be on
reserve in the library for those occasions. Those with a background in
mathematical statistics who whish to have a reference that covers theoretical
aspects in more depth may want to pick up a copy of CDA. [Note: If you
choose this book for the course instead of the required text, you
should be alerted that the organization of topics is a bit different and
that it does not include all of the practice exercises that I will be assigning.]
