History

For the past six years, Dr. Thomas Martinek, a professor at UNC Greensboro and Dr. Tammy Schilling, also a professor at UNC Greensboro has been operating a program called Project Effort. Project Effort is an after-school sports club and an in-school mentoring program. The participants are kids in the third through the eighth grade. There are actually three levels in the program. The first level is the elementary, the second is the middle school (6th and 7th) and the final level is the Youth Leader Corps. The students in the YLC are mainly high school students with the exception of a few eighth graders. Each year as students graduate from elementary to middle and middle to high school the children are promoted to the next level in the program.
