Get to Know ME

Originally from Orange County, Virginia, Avery has always loved to write and naturally gravitated toward writing in school. He sharpened his writing skills at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. He worked toward a career in television journalism – interning with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” the NBC News political unit, and “USA Today College.”

For seven years, Avery was a television reporter/anchor in three different cities/states: Harrisonburg, Virginia; Burlington, Vermont; and, most recently, Greensboro, North Carolina. Looking for a change – he decided to leave television news in 2022 and found a place at UNC Greensboro in University Communications.

Outside of work – he loves anything pop culture related, whether it’s films, television, or music (he’s slowly trying to gain a vinyl collection). You can also find him reading, specifically thrillers, horror, or an excellent tell-all celebrity memoir.

Having moved around due to college and work for several years, Avery is happy to call Greensboro home and enjoys everything it offers, including plenty of space for running: a passion since he was younger. His two dogs – Rocky and Charlie – also enjoy the parks for walks.
