Biography
Randy McMullen has been a member of the UNCG Theatre faculty for the past 33 years. Previous academic appointments were at the University of Colorado at Boulder and at the University of Northern Iowa. Over this span of time, he has designed over 250 productions of plays, musicals, child drama, and opera as a set and lighting designer for professional organizations and for academic institutions.
Classes taught by Prof. McMullen include Elements of Design, Theatre Graphics, Beginning and Advanced Scene Design, Beginning and Advanced Scene Painting, Period Styles, Special Topics, and graduate level courses in the area of Design and Technical Production.
Prof. McMullen is a member of United Scenic Artists, USAA 829, NEW YORK and is the recipient of the Kennedy Center/ American College Theatre Festival’s National Design Fellowship for “Outstanding Accomplishment as a Teaching Artist”.
As a designer, Prof. McMullen has worked professionally for multiple seasons at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, Triad Stage (NC), and Mill Mountain Theatre. As a Guest Artist, he has worked at the American University (Cairo, Egypt), Auburn University Department of Theatre and Dance, University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Arts and Humanities, The University of Missouri College of Fine Arts, and the University of Wyoming Department of Theatre and Dance.
