SUMMARY:Juneteenth Documentary Showing & Discussion: “After Sherman”
DESCRIPTION:Join UNC Greensboro’s African American and African Diaspora Studies (AADS) program for a special documentary showing in honor of Juneteenth. \nAbout the film\, “After Sherman:” Returning to the coastal South Carolina land that his family purchased after emancipation\, filmmaker Jon-Sesrie Goff’s desire to explore his Gullah/Geechee roots transforms into a poetic investigation of Black inheritance\, trauma\, and generational wisdom\, amidst the violent tensions that define America’s collective history.  \nMedia Studies professor Hassan Pitts and UNCG students will engage in a discussion of the film immediately following the viewing. \nAttendees will have a chance to view the ongoing art exhibits following this event. \nThis film is viewable on Kanopy though the University Library. Watch the trailer at pbs.org.

SUMMARY:CNNC's Building Bridges Night
DESCRIPTION:CNNC is partnering with Oden Brewing Co. and La Sinaloense Birrieria Taco Truck for a Building Bridges Night\, Wednesday\, July 2 from 4:30 – 9:00 pm with all proceeds going toward the Building Bridges Campaign. Come out to enjoy some good food\, good\, beer\, good company\, and support the immigrant community of Greensboro. \n\n\n\nGreensboro’s immigrant community is a vital part of our city’s identity and strength. From contributing to our economy and enriching our cultural tapestry to supporting local businesses and schools\, immigrants are integral to our shared prosperity. \n\n\n\nWhile shifts in federal funding have reduced capacity at many immigrant-serving organizations\, the needs of the immigrant community remain high. In this challenging environment\, organizations like the Center for New North Carolinians at UNCG play a crucial role in providing trusted support\, accurate information\, and a sense of belonging to those most at risk. \n\n\n\nAt the CNNC\, we believe in building bridges—between cultures\, communities\, and opportunities. Every day\, CNNC empowers immigrants and refugees across North Carolina by providing essential services such as language support\, healthcare navigation\, employment readiness\, and youth mentoring. \n\n\n\nWith a unique model that trains community leaders from within immigrant populations\, CNNC fosters self-sufficiency and long-term success. Your support directly fuels these life-changing programs\, helping newcomers not just survive\, but thrive.

SUMMARY:The Art of Gaming
DESCRIPTION:John Borchert has always been interested in how art and technology connect to culture and morality. Hear him talk about “The Art of Gaming\,” his previous work in art and technology\, and what will come to Greensboro through UNCG and its partnerships in the art and media industry.  \n\n\n\nThe event will be held Aug. 28\, from 6 to 7 p.m.\, with a reception to follow until 7:30 p.m.
