- Dean's Welcome
Welcome to the School of Health and Human Sciences (HHS)! We’re a vibrant community of students, faculty, and staff who are committed to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of individuals, families, and communities worldwide. Across eight academic departments, we share a commitment to our guiding values of diversity and inclusion, care and respect for communities, and equitable partnerships in our service and research with the community. Our priorities align with the three cornerstones of UNCG's strategic plan: Health and wellness, vibrant communities and global connections.
Our dedicated and award-winning faculty are nationally and internationally recognized, and many of our programs are among the best in the region or country. With a passion for teaching, we equip students with the knowledge and skills that prepare them for exciting careers in high-demand fields, including many health-related and helping professions. Students in HHS are trained to become social workers, dietitians, nutritionists, teachers of infants and young children, health educators, athletic trainers, kinesiologists, genetic counselors, speech language pathologists, speech and hearing scientists, gerontologists, therapeutic recreation specialists, recreation leaders, conflict mediators, child development and family studies specialists, and experts in many areas of public service.
Faculty in HHS are deeply engaged in research, working directly with undergraduate and graduate students on projects examining some of today’s most pressing problems, including sexual and reproductive health, obesity prevention, child care quality, and injury risk, prevention and rehabilitation. Many of these research projects engage community participants and offer insights into improving health and well-being. And many of these projects are externally funded, another point of pride among our esteemed faculty.
