Janet Lilly
Biography
JANET LILLY is a Professor of Dance at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro (UNCG). She joined UNCG in 2011 after 16 years at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, where she was instrumental in creating a low-residence MFA program for returning professionals. She served as the UNCG Director of Dance from 2011-2023 and as the Interim Director of Theatre in Spring 2025.
A former principal dancer and teacher with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, Professor Lilly has choreographed and taught as a guest artist nationally and internationally. She was the recipient of a 2008–2009 Fulbright Award to India.
Professor Lilly was elected as a Member of the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD) Commission on Accreditation in 2015 and served as the Chair of the Commission on Accreditation from 2021 to 2024. Lilly currently serves as the Vice-President of NASD as well as a trustee of the Council of Arts Accrediting Associations (CAAA). Professor Lilly is an elected member of the American College Dance Association (ACDA) as the Secretary of the Executive Council.
Professor Lilly holds a Bachelor of Science from New York University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan. Lilly is also a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher, a Yoga Alliance 500-hour Registered Teacher, and is an International Association of Yoga Therapist. Professor Lilly also served as President of the Iyengar National Association of the United States (IYNAUS) from 2012–2014.
