Bio and Education 

Melissa Floyd, Ph.D., LCSW, is a Professor of Social Work at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. She completed her doctoral work at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2002 after receiving her MSW from VCU in 1994. Throughout her 30 year practice career, she has worked in direct service settings, primarily with persons who have serious mental illness, substance abuse issues, and intellectual disabilities. She has served as a consultant with agencies throughout the NC Triad.

She served for eight years as Department Head/Chair for the Department of Social Work at UNCG where she was responsible for nearly 500 students per year and instrumental in starting the Joint PhD program with North Carolina A & T. She has worked as Principal Investigator on several multi-million dollar projects over the past ten years, including the HRSA Behavioral Health grant as well as the innovative Guilford County Solution to the Opioid Problem programs.

Her hobbies include writing fiction, gardening, and singing along with her poor guitar playing. She lives in Greensboro, North Carolina with her husband Walter and their two children, Elijah and Iris.
