Dr. Nelson-Gray founded the UNCG doctoral program in clinical psychology (Initial accreditation 1982). She was the first female president of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy and has been invited to present her research on five continents. She has been awarded the UNCG Outstanding Faculty Research Award (1990) and the UNCG Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award (2022).
