UNC Greensboro offers resources to assist students and families to apply for financial aid. Most forms of aid are based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is every student’s first step in receiving funding to assist with college costs.

APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID

UNC Greensboro financial aid — such as loans, grants, and some scholarships — is awarded through the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to eligible students based on information reported each year in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can begin applying for the FAFSA in October of each year for the following fall. UNCG’s priority filing period runs Oct. 1 – Jan. 15, but you can apply year round. Applying early gives you the best access to the most possible aid.

Financial Aid packages are processed and released on a rolling basis. Typically awards are sent out and posted on UNCGenie starting in the spring prior to the aid year.

Due to changes in the 2024-25 FAFSA, there have been delays in aid processing and awarding nationally. UNCG’s Office of Financial Aid is processing awards as quickly as possible and communicating regularly to students entering in Fall and Summer 2024 terms.

FINANCIAL AID ELIGIBILITY

Students are eligible to complete a FAFSA and receive federal financial aid as long as they are accepted or enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program and are U.S. citizens (or eligible non-citizens). Continued eligibility requires that students continue taking the right classes and making satisfactory progress toward earning their degree.

FINANCIAL AID ASSISTANCE

Our Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships is staffed by experts who can help students and families navigate the financial aid process. Students can contact financial aid directly to schedule an appointment or use resources on our student business website, Spartan Central, to learn more about the types of aid and how to make the most of their aid award.
