THE B.S. IN SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY AND AUDIOLOGY

The Bachelor of Science in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology is a pre-professional program that gives you the coursework and experience you need to pursue a graduate degree in the field or NC certification as a SLP or Audiology Assistant. As a student in UNCG’s program, will work with faculty mentors on research projects or gain experience in the community with diverse populations you are likely to serve after graduation.

Students complete guided observation hours with speech-language pathologists or audiologists. You can also get involved in the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing.

Career Outcomes from this major

Speech-language pathologists work to prevent and treat speech, language, and swallowing disorders in children and adults. Audiologists work with patients to diagnose, manage, and treat ear problems, including hearing and balance difficulties.

Speech-language pathologists and audiologists are healthcare professionals who must hold a master’s degree and pass a certification exam in order to work in the field. The quality of the program you choose matters, you must graduate from a program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) so it’s important to earn a bachelor’s degree that gives you the flexibility to pursue your graduate degree or certification as an SLP assistant or audiology assistant.

New CAREER OPTION WITHOUT A MASTER’S DEGREE

The UNCG Speech Language Pathology (SLP) and Audiology undergraduate degree meets the educational/academic requirements for a career as a SLP or Audiology Assistant in the state of North Carolina. Those interested in the NC SLP or Audiology Assistant scope of practice and requirements, should visit the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists website.
