Dr. Carrie Morris (Counseling and Educational Development) received new funding from Rockingham County Schools, Prime: U.S. Department of Education for the project “ACTIVATE Plus: Advancing Coordinated and Timely Interventions through Awareness, Training & Education – a PipeLine Uplifting Students.” Dr. DiAnne Borders is co-principal investigator on the project.
The ACTIVATE-PLUS project includes several components that evidence an exceptional approach to the priorities outlined in this grant. First, researchers will place graduate students from multiple training backgrounds and perspectives in high-needs RCS schools who, together, will offer a range of preventive through tertiary-level SEL-based and trauma-informed services. These students will be completing activities and hours required for both graduation from the graduate program and post-graduate licensure. School counseling interns will provide support services including relevant psycho-education regarding SEL competencies and coping skills (i.e., classroom guidance) as well as individual and group counseling for students identified as at-risk, and also will assist in identifying students needing tertiary\ services.
