It was a much-anticipated weekend, with alumni once more mingling with UNCG students. Homecoming welcomed back two classes for their 50th anniversary reunions, and marked a few firsts.

Staff Senate hosts Angel Tree and Family Room Volunteer Days
Faculty and staff have until November 4 to nominate a family for this year’s Angel Tree. They can also volunteer for two different service opportunities on October 24 and November 21.
Meet your 2022 Homecoming Royal Court
This is not your typical Homecoming Court. Eight of UNCG’s brightest students comprise the Royal Court, an honor that comes to students who demonstrate academic performance, curricular and co-curricular involvement, contribution to the university and the community, and – of course – Spartan spirit.
Governor awards Long Leaf Pine honor to Safran, Kaplan
Randall Kaplan and Susan Morris Safran ’77 were surprised with the presentation of The Order of the Long Leaf Pine awards during the UNC Greensboro Celebration of Philanthropy event. Governor Roy Cooper was there to personally present these high honors.
Alumna returns to UNCG for masterclass and performance
Shayla Taylor ‘20 shares what made the School of Dance feel like home, the anxiety of graduating during a pandemic, and the campus support that helped her net a spot with the Urban Bush Women dance company. She will share her expertise with students in a masterclass, then perform for the community as part of the University Concert & Lecture Series on Friday.
Celebrate Founders Day
This year, UNCG celebrates 130 years!
Founders Day, typically recognized on the anniversary of the first day of classes in 1892, celebrates and commemorates UNC Greensboro’s history.
This year, due to Yom Kippur, Founders Day will be celebrated on campus Thursday, October 6th.
Start the day off right with free doughnuts, T-shirts, and giveaways at five locations throughout campus from 9:30-11 a.m.
Then, party like a Founder on Kaplan Commons (EUC Lawn) from 1:30-3 p.m.
The lawn party will feature music, yard games, UNCG branded giveaways, T-shirts, photo/video booths, popcorn, and birthday cake!

Cunningham’s PTRP Experience Sets Up Success in Classroom
Driving a school bus for Guilford County Schools, serving as a secretary in the county’s transportation office, and working as a teaching assistant in Rockingham County Schools (RCS) could not fulfill Justin Cunningham’s desire to work with students. So he decided to enroll in the initial cohort of UNC Greensboro’s Piedmont Teacher Residency Partnership (PTRP), a program designed to allow people who did not earn their undergraduate degree in an educational field to gain both their initial licensure and a master’s degree in teaching within 18 months.

Tunstall Scholarship for adult students
Deborah Tunstall Tippett ’73, ’81 MS, ’91 PhD. made this gift to the UNC Greensboro Light the Way campaign in honor of her mother, Ann Satterwhite Tunstall. This scholarship will help adult learners surmount the many obstacles in a busy, demanding life that might otherwise put their education on hold.
