Spartans are celebrating the holiday season by giving back with the 14th annual Branches of Love event.

This Saturday, Dec. 7, UNC Greensboro students, alumni, faculty, and staff will spend the afternoon decorating holiday trees that will be donated to local families in transition through Greensboro Urban Ministry’s Partnership Village Transitional Housing Program.

The event will be held in the Alumni House from noon to 2:30 p.m.

What started as a service project for UNCG Student Alumni Ambassadors has grown into a holiday tradition that is embraced by the entire campus community.”This is a wonderful event where Spartans of all ages and backgrounds come together and shine a little light on UNCG’s motto of ‘Service’,” said Donegan Root ’87, associate director of alumni engagement.“Students, alumni, faculty, and staff all take part in this festive holiday tradition that brings a little joy to the families at Partnership Village.”

In addition to giving back to families at Partnership Village, each four-person decorating team is asked to bring a total of 20 canned or non-perishable food items to be donated to Spartan Open Pantry. Over 1,000 pounds of food are donated each year to the cause.

Four-person teams can register online at alumni.uncg.edu. A limited number of ornaments will be provided, and prizes will be awarded to the best themed, best traditional, and best overall trees.
