The 19th annual conference of the International Network on Brief Interventions for Alcohol and Other Drugs (INEBRIA) will be happening here in Greensboro on September 28 and 29, with pre-conference workshops on September 27.

INEBRIA is the only organization in the world exclusively dedicated to screening and brief intervention (SBI) research. Organized out of the World Health Organization Collaborative Project on Identification and Management of Alcohol-related Problems in Primary Health Care, INEBRIA serves as a catalyst for researchers and policymakers worldwide to meet and analyze emerging SBI-related research findings.

The hybrid, morning pre-conference workshop will be a special feature on how North American researchers can secure EU funding for screening and brief intervention research by examining the recent developments taking place with the Horizon Europe funding model. The Horizon Europe program is a research and innovation funding program running through 2027 with a budget of €95.5 billion, with the strategic aim of “facilitating collaboration and strengthening the impact of research and innovation in developing, supporting and implementing EU policies while tackling global challenges.”

Horizon Europe offers opportunities to researchers all across the globe through fellowships and grants. Join us virtually or in-person on September 27 to learn more about how to harness this new funding model for your research! The workshop will begin at 9 a.m. in the Carolina room at Transform GSO in Greensboro, NC.

The afternoon pre-conference workshop will be offered face-to-face only, with a reception to follow in the main room of Transform GSO.

19th Annual INEBRIA Conference

This theme for this year’s conference is “Optimizing Brief Interventions for a New Era: From Research to Practice and Policy.” It sets the stage for a thoughtful exploration of bridging research findings with practical implementation. Over the course of two days, global experts will delve into the latest developments and insights that are shaping the field.

Enhancing the experience, two exciting pre-conference workshops on September 27 will focus on EU funding for North American researchers as well as the MOST framework for developing and evaluating interventions. Dinner will be at the International Civil Rights Museum on September 28, sponsored by Wake Forest University School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery.

Additionally, we are honored to highlight three of our plenary speakers: Dr. Cheryl Cherpitel, senior scientist and director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Alcohol Epidemiology and Injury at the Alcohol Research Group; Dr. Maristela Montiero, retired senior advisor on alcohol at the Pan American Health Organization; and Dr. Dzmitry Krupchanka, medical officer of the Management of Substance Abuse Unit in WHO’s Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse.

Anyone who can’t make it to the entire conference can register for one or both of the pre-conference workshops independently or come for the main conference itself.  Members of the UNCG or Wake Forest community receive $100 off of their registration fee.

Dr. Jeremy Bray, Jefferson-Pilot Excellence Professor of economics, talks about the scope and value of INEBRIA here.
